Before the detail, here's the challenge you'd help us solve. We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this.

About our Portal Team: Portal is the cloud platform that connects Wayve to the outside world: enabling data exchange with partners, surfacing AI insights and supporting the commercial deployment of our AI Driver in vehicles around the globe.

As a Senior Software Engineer, Data, you'll join a small, high-autonomy team building Wayve's Data Transfer Hub—mission-critical infrastructure designed to transfer petabytes of sensor data per day from global partners. Working with partners such as Uber, Stellantis and Nissan, you'll help build the data foundations that make AI model training possible at scale.

Your day-to-day:

  • Build and operate large-scale pipelines that transfer video, LiDAR and other sensor data from global partners.
  • Shape the technical design of the Data Transfer Hub, making pragmatic trade-offs across user experience, reliability, throughput, cost, partner constraints, observability and operational support.
  • Write pipeline logic primarily in Python and manage infrastructure as code with Terraform.
  • Work closely with product, commercial and partner-facing teams to understand constraints and solve real customer and partner problems.
  • Implement and evolve a hub-and-spoke model for retrieving and sharing sensor data with partners at up to petabyte-per-day scale.
  • Build retry strategies, backfills, data integrity checks, lifecycle and state tracking, dashboards and alerting.
  • Develop networking and large-scale file-transfer solutions, with Azure as the primary cloud platform.
  • Improve throughput, reliability and cost efficiency while accommodating different partner environments and constraints.

You should apply if:

  • You've built and operated large-scale data transfer, ingestion or processing pipelines, ideally at multi-terabyte or petabyte scale.
  • You have strong software engineering skills and experience delivering and maintaining production systems.
  • You're proficient in Python and Terraform.
  • You know how to build reliable, observable data systems, including retries, backfills, integrity checks, lifecycle and state tracking, and operational alerting.
  • You have strong cloud platform skills, ideally with Azure, and experience with object or blob storage, large-scale file movement, networking or cloud-to-cloud transfers.
  • You're comfortable with evolving requirements and take ownership of outcomes, communicate clearly and help your team move quickly.

It's a bonus if you also have:

  • Experience working with external data partners or building customer-facing technical integrations.
  • A background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, geospatial data, video processing or another data-intensive domain.
  • Multi-cloud experience across Azure, AWS and/or GCP.
  • Experience improving the cost efficiency, throughput or reliability of large-scale cloud data systems.

More about Wayve: Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end-to-end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real-world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand-coded rules or pre-mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency.

How we work: Our main hubs are in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver and Leonberg. We operate a hybrid working model that combines in-person collaboration in our dedicated office spaces with focused time working remotely. This gives our teams the connection and energy of working together, alongside the flexibility to do their best work in a way that fits their lives.
