As an Engineering Manager for the Simulation team, you will lead a team of engineers in building the simulation platform to develop and evaluate Wayve’s driving intelligence. Wayve’s approach to autonomous driving presents unique challenges for simulation. Our end to end driving stack requires a simulator that is both highly realistic and highly descriptive. Our approach to simulation brings together a combination of classical simulation techniques with cutting edge developments in machine learning to represent the real world in high fidelity at scale.
You’ll be managing a multi-disciplinary team and working closely with other leaders from across robotics, machine learning development and data to ensure the quality and efficiency of the simulator and deliver an effective evaluation and development platform.
Challenges you will own:
- Help define and drive simulation roadmap to deliver on company goals and priorities
- Lead technical discussions and guide technical direction where needed
- Set effective KPIs and metrics
- Build resilient and reliable systems, and teams
- Anticipate the needs of the business 18 months out, identify areas where additional resources are needed and grow team as hiring manager
- Prioritise effectively, implement and maintain lean and effective team processes
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, and other teams within the organisation to ensure alignment
- Work closely with team members to develop career plans and growth trajectories
- Actively foster and promote technical excellence within the team
- Partner with leadership to maintain a culture of impact, performance, and health

What you will bring to Wayve:
Essential:
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams
- Experience with roadmap planning, stakeholder management, requirements gathering and alignment with peers towards milestones and deliverables
- Track record of promoting software engineering best practices and excellence within the team
- Demonstrated ability to manage software engineers and grow their careers
- Good foundational coding knowledge and experience
Desirable:
- Prior experience working with simulation platforms
- Experience building systems in Python and/or C++
- Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals
