Role Description

The Criminal Justice Recovery Worker is a full-time, on-site role based in Torquay. In this position, the team member will support individuals involved in the criminal justice system who are experiencing issues related to mental health, alcohol, and drugs. Day-to-day tasks include conducting assessments, developing personalized recovery plans, providing one-to-one and group interventions, and coordinating care with partner agencies such as probation services, courts, and health providers. The role also involves monitoring progress, maintaining accurate records, advocating for service users, and contributing to risk management and safeguarding processes. The Criminal Justice Recovery Worker will work closely with colleagues to deliver consistent, evidence-based support that promotes recovery, reduces reoffending, and improves wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in assessment, care planning, and case management within criminal justice, mental health, or substance use settings.
  • Experience providing one-to-one support, group facilitation, and motivational interventions focused on recovery and behavior change.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice processes, safeguarding principles, and risk management in community and custodial environments.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with service users, families, and partner agencies.
  • Ability to maintain clear, accurate records, use digital systems, and manage time effectively in a busy on-site setting.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, person-centered, and evidence-based approaches to mental health and substance use support.
  • Relevant qualification in social care, criminal justice, psychology, counselling, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing training, including safeguarding, health and safety, and specialist alcohol and drug interventions.
