This position operates strictly as an instructional and behavioral specialist, completely free of administrative, supervisory, or disciplinary duties. This non-administrative role allows the coach to focus entirely on non-evaluative teacher coaching, direct student intervention, and building-level system support.

SUPERVISOR: MTSS Coordinator, in conjunction with the Principal and State & Federal Program Director.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The MTSS Academic Student Coach utilizes push-in models of co-teaching and targeted pull-out sessions to provide direct, flexible instructional support across assigned grade bands / content areas.
  • The coach collaborates within the general education classrooms to support students in real-time (push-in) and small groups for intensive, skill-specific remediation (pull-out) during the WIN Hour or other designated time.

DUTIES:

  • Flexible Service Delivery: Implement a hybrid model of push-in classroom support and targeted, short-term pull-out groups based on student data.
  • Co-Teaching & Modeling: Partner with classroom teachers during core instruction to scaffold lessons and model high-leverage intervention strategies.
  • Targeted Remediation: Conduct intensive, evidence-based pull-out sessions focusing on foundational reading, writing, or math deficits.
  • Schedule Coordination: Manage a fluid schedule across assigned district schools to maximize direct contact time with high-need student cohorts.
  • Data Integration: Continually align pull-out intervention goals with the regular classroom curriculum to ensure students transfer newly learned skills.
  • Systemic Collaboration: Advise building leaders on scheduling strategies that protect core instruction time during push-in and pull-out transitions.
  • Comply with the requirements in all of the Academy's Handbooks.
  • Complete all State & Federal Program documentation requirements in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy and instruction in all content areas as assigned by the supervisor, as allowable under grant regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Required Bachelor degree in Education, Special Education, Reading/Math specialization, or a related instructional field. Preferred Master Degree in Curriculum & Instruction.
  • Certification: Valid MI Teaching Certificate with an instructional specialist, coaching, or administrative endorsement preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years successful teaching at-risk students. Preferred 3 years of experience, with demonstrated success in both co-teaching (push-in) and small-group remediation (pull-out) environments.
