The Varsity Bowling Coach is responsible for leading and developing the school's bowling program by promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, academic achievement, and competitive excellence. The coach will provide instruction in bowling techniques, foster positive relationships with student-athletes, and ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment while adhering to all district, conference, and state athletic regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices and team meetings.
- Teach and develop fundamental and advanced bowling skills, strategies, and sportsmanship.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes character, respect, accountability, and teamwork.
- Promote the academic success and personal growth of all student-athletes.
- Develop practice plans that improve individual and team performance.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, team travel, and other team activities.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, transportation, equipment, uniforms, and facility needs.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school staff, and administration.
- Ensure compliance with all school district policies, conference regulations, and Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) rules.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, eligibility, equipment inventory, and team statistics.
- Encourage off-season skill development and support youth bowling initiatives when appropriate.
- Model professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior at all times.
- Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development opportunities, and athletic department functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous coaching and/or competitive bowling experience preferred.
- Knowledge of bowling fundamentals, coaching techniques, and player development.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and positively influence high school student-athletes.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holiday tournaments as required during the season.
- Successful completion of all district-required background checks and employment requirements.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain before the season begins).
- Completion of all required MHSAA and district coaching certifications.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to demonstrate bowling techniques when necessary.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to travel with the team to away competitions.
Compensation:
Compensation is based on the district's approved extracurricular salary schedule and applicable collective bargaining agreements, if applicable.
