This position operates strictly as an instructional and behavioral specialist, completely free of administrative, supervisory, or disciplinary duties. This non-administrative role allows the coach to focus entirely on non-evaluative teacher coaching, direct student intervention, and building-level system support.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain an assigned caseload of students to support their academic & behavioral successes in the classroom and their post-secondary goals.
- Focus on REACH behaviors through PBIS strategies and practices to obtain College & Career Readiness through executive functioning skills and ACT Workkeys essential skills.
DUTIES:
- Provide non-evaluative coaching, modeling, and feedback to classroom teachers on positive behavior strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Implement Tier 1, 2, and 3 behavioral systems under the direct guidance and strategic oversight of the Principal & MTSS Coordinator.
- Facilitate targeted social-skills groups (Tier 2) and implement student-specific Behavior Intervention Plans (Tier 3) designed by the MTSS team.
- Apply crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques safely when a student experiences emotional or behavioral distress.
- Guide students through restorative practices, conflict resolution, and self-regulation exercises.
- Work one-on-one or with small groups to reinforce lessons directed by classroom teachers & MTSS staff as related to College & Career Readiness essential skills / executive functioning skills.
- Collaborate with MTSS staff on solutions for students experiencing chronic absenteeism.
- Collect, graph, and organize behavioral data (such as office discipline referrals and attendance metrics) to present directly to the MTSS Coordinator.
- Participate as a core member of building-level problem-solving teams, serving as the behavioral subject matter expert without administrative authority.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy and instruction in all content areas as assigned by the supervisor, as allowable under grant regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, School Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a closely related behavioral field.
- Valid State license or certification in education, school counseling, school social work, or behavior analysis preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of successful experience managing student behaviors in a school setting, with experience in adult peer-coaching or consultation.
- Strong collaborative skills, deep understanding of PBIS and trauma-informed care, and the ability to work supportively within a defined organizational hierarchy.
- Deep understanding of, and sensitivity to, the unique socio-economic and cultural backgrounds of the student population.
- Strong ability to actively listen, build trust, and establish positive rapport with resistant or guarded youth.
- Ability to remain completely calm, use a low vocal tone, and maintain strict professional boundaries during acute behavioral outbursts.
