Background to the Appointment
Wayland Additive Limited is a West-Yorkshire based company pushing the boundaries of electron beam 3D metal printing. Wayland’s goal is to develop, manufacture and sell metal Additive Manufacturing (“AM” – 3D printing) machines to industrial end-users such as major players in the aerospace and medical industries. These machines are technically high complex with many components and a sales value in excess of £1m each.
Wayland’s technology is based around highly sophisticated evolutions from the worlds of scanning electron microscopy and electron beam lithography. As a result of these innovations, the machine will offer higher productivity, unparalleled process monitoring and control, and versatility in materials.
The Wayland team controls the whole design and IP of the machine. All components are sourced by the company and its production department assembles and tests the machines prior to shipping.
The Job
Overview/Purpose/Background:
Working as part of the UK Service and Support Team, responsible for the installation and maintenance of highly complex Metal Additive Manufacturing capital equipment on client sites across the country. Utilising specialist tools and diagnostics equipment to ensure the continued fault-free operation of each machine at predefined service intervals and to provide unplanned repair services to clients as required with predefined SLA’s. To ensure that all company and client standards are adhered to and the best aftercare is provided at all times. Ongoing collaboration and support across other areas of Wayland Additive including reporting all service history and defective machine parts.
Job description/Responsibilities:
- Installation and testing of new machines on client sites
- Provide training to customers on the proper operation of their equipment
- Planning and organising service visits
- Performing diagnostics, maintenance and repair on machines
- Fixing or replacing defective parts or components and keeping detailed records of all work carried out on each machine
- Completing service and maintenance reports and providing feedback to Service Manager as required
- Answering customer queries via telephone and email
- Liaise with Service Manager for all parts ordered, inventory management and timeliness of order completion
Skills / Experience
Skills & Experience
- Experience in providing maintenance and repair on electro-mechanical industrial machinery
- Experience with additive manufacturing / industrial 3D printing machines, preferably metal AM.
- Experience using specialist diagnostics and hand power tools
- Good attention to detail and fault rectification experience
- Installation and commissioning of precision industrial machinery
- Familiar with regular travel within a field based service role
- Experienced in providing training to customers
- Willingness to provide support to the wider organisation
Qualifications/Certifications:
- NVQ Level 3/HNC or equivalent in relevant engineering subject
- Industry / in-house training for servicing AM machines
Desirable Skills:
- Metal additive manufacturing experience
- Experience with specialist electron or laser based industrial machinery
