Our innovative and patented NeuBeam® process enables the production of complex metal parts, particularly in high performing super materials. As we continue to expand our presence in the industry, we are seeking a talented Quality Engineer to join our dynamic team.
The Job
As a Quality Engineer at Wayland Additive, based in Huddersfield, UK, you will play a key role in shaping the business by supporting the development of our processes. You will work closely with colleagues to ensure processes are fit for purpose, problems are resolved effectively and improvement activities undertaken. While appropriate experience is highly desirable, even more important is an aptitude and mindset for improvement, data driven decision making and a willingness to collaborate closely both with suppliers and colleagues to find solutions to problems.
Process Approach: Work with process owners to develop their understanding of the process approach, relevant requirements and support them in creating coherent, user-friendly process documentation.
Management System: Support the transition and development of the new Document Management System, including the review of existing documentation, creation of new content, and support for all users.
Problem Solving: Coordinate robust problem solving activities to identify root cause efficiently, and ensure the implementation of appropriate corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Supplier Quality: Work with suppliers to ensure Supplier Corrective Action Requests are adequately addressed and in an appropriate time frame.
Supplier Approval: Support Procurement with the assessment of new and existing suppliers in terms of their Quality / Business systems.
Auditing: Conduct internal audits in line with the audit schedule, and support process owners in the close of actions as appropriate.
Management Review: Actively participate in Quality Management Review Meetings, prepare data and support in the close out of actions.
Improvement Focus: Identify, conduct, and support continuous improvement actions.
Skills / Experience
- Experienced Quality Engineer with a manufacturing background.
- Technical qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Quality. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels internally and externally.
- Good understanding of ISO 9001, risk based thinking and the process approach.
- Qualified experienced internal auditor.
- Logical thinker able to gather, validate and interrogate data to evaluate process performance and determine suitable improvement activities.
- Demonstrable experience of the application of quality tools and problem-solving techniques (e.g., process mapping, Pareto analysis, 8D).
- Be able to provide guidance to others in Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA).
- Good working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Willingness to travel as needed for visits to suppliers and customers.
