We have a popular restaurant located in Watergate Bay, a fully-equipped sports centre and gym situated in the heart of Newquay, and an events company that organises and runs a variety of functions and events. Additionally, we are proudly the food and beverage partner for Truro City Football Club & Newquay Football Club.
Role Overview
We are looking for a reliable and practical Event Operative to join our growing team. This is a hands-on, varied role primarily focused on event support, while also assisting with maintenance and handyman work across multiple sites throughout the year. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, problem solving, and being part of a fast-moving events environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Event Support (Primary Focus)
- Assist with setup and pack-down of events (bars, screens, staging, power etc.)
- Support live events with logistics and operational tasks
- Transport equipment between sites and events
- Work as part of the event crew to ensure smooth delivery
- Assist with fault-finding and on-the-day problem solving
- Assist with general maintenance across multiple sites
- Basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and repair tasks
- Identify faults, wear, and safety issues proactively
- Assist with small projects and improvements
- Ensure sites are safe, tidy, and operational
- Liaise with management on repairs and priorities
Skills & Experience
- Essential:
- Full UK driving licence
- Confident driving vans and transporting equipment
- Good practical ability and hands-on approach
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically capable of manual handling and outdoor work
Training & Development
- On-the-job training provided
- Opportunity to gain further qualifications and certifications
- Development into more senior operational or technical roles available for the right candidate
Working Hours
- Primarily Monday to Friday
- Evenings and weekends required during events
- Some longer days during peak periods
- Event season typically April – Sept, schedule provided well in advance wherever possible
