THE ROLE
Waves Group has a strong track record in the provision of Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) services across offshore renewables and decommissioning. This is a senior leadership role for an experienced Marine Warranty Surveyor who will lead and develop our MWS capability within this strategically important sector. The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of offshore renewable energy projects and must demonstrate a strong understanding of offshore construction, installation and marine operations, together with the independent assurance role of the Marine Warranty Surveyor.
- Leadership of the MWS business line, with responsibility for strategy development, delivery of existing projects and securing new work;
- Liaison with the insurance community to develop and maintain relationships, raise the company profile and stay abreast of industry trends and developments;
- Line management responsibility for a team of technical and support staff, including workload management, performance oversight and professional development;
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding and retention in line with business growth plans;
- Ensuring appropriate resourcing of projects, balancing technical competence, availability and commercial considerations;
- Identifying, championing and implementing continuous improvements in the delivery and efficiency of MWS services;
- Management and execution of major offshore projects, acting as Lead MWS where appropriate;
- Business development across existing and new clients, fostering strong relationships and converting opportunities into awarded work;
- Supporting and, where appropriate, leading the preparation of proposals, scopes of work and commercial inputs;
- Providing leadership, mentoring and technical support, supporting capability and succession development;
- Providing input and advice across Waves Group’s wider service offering, including consultancy, feasibility studies and engineering projects;
- Liaison with the Board of Directors, Associate Directors and Business Line Leads to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery across the business;
- Liaison with the Business Development and Marketing teams to ensure a clear and consistent market message.
THE CANDIDATE
To be successful, you will be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, professional expertise and personal attributes:
- Appropriate professional qualifications, typically from an engineering or marine background. Offshore renewable energy experience is preferred; however, relevant oil and gas sector experience will also be actively considered;
- Proven senior‑level experience delivering Marine Warranty Survey services within the offshore energy industries, including SOMWS membership (or eligibility);
- A strong commitment to delivering high‑quality, independent assurance services aligned with the Company’s values;
- Confidence in networking, client engagement and professional presentations;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Sound knowledge and practical application of relevant rules, codes, standards and guidelines.
The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate:
- Leadership capability combined with a proactive approach to business development;
- Demonstrable experience in line management or team leadership within a technical or consultancy environment;
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop technical professionals;
- Experience in setting objectives, providing constructive feedback and managing performance fairly and consistently;
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure;
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility across all levels;
- Commercial acumen, including the ability to understand client needs, develop proportionate solutions and balance these with the commercial interests of Waves Group;
- Confidence in managing the competing demands of project delivery, business development and people leadership;
- A collaborative approach, with a genuine desire to contribute to the continued growth and development of the Company.
This position is suited to a diligent and motivated professional who is keen to further develop their career within a growing engineering and marine consultancy. The role will require an element of travel, occasionally at short notice, and may include offshore attendance where reasonably required by the Company. This is a staff position which could be based in any of our international offices, with flexible employment opportunities.
