Waverley Borough Council is looking for a committed and professionally competent Registered Building Inspector to join our Building Control team. You will help protect the health, safety, sustainability, energy conservation and accessibility of people in and around buildings across the borough, undertaking all aspects of the Building Control function on behalf of the council.
In this role, you will:
- Examine plans
- Carry out site inspections
- Maintain accurate records
- Ensure full compliance with the Building Regulations
- Manage dangerous structures
- Deal with demolitions
- Provide clear technical advice
- Take enforcement action where required
You will work closely with residents, contractors, architects and partner agencies, offering a professional, solution-focused service while upholding the Building Safety Regulator’s Operational Standards Rules and Code of Conduct. You will need maintained competency through BSCF, CABE or BCCA and hold at least Class 2A BSR registration, along with experience in a similar Building Control role. Strong technical knowledge, confident communication skills, and the ability to manage your own workload are essential. You must also have a full driving licence, access to a roadworthy vehicle for inspections, and be able to work at height and in confined spaces.
This is a flexible role combining office, home and site-based working within a supportive team that processes around 1,500 applications and 5,500 inspections each year. You will contribute to service development, build strong customer relationships and support the continued growth of Waverley’s Building Control service.
