We're looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join our wider infrastructure team, with Azure and cloud as your main focus. You'll be our Azure subject matter expert and the team's go-to person for integrations, migrations and transformation work. This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You'll take the lead on the Azure side of our estate, run cloud-to-cloud migrations as we integrate newly acquired businesses, build and support integrations across our SaaS platforms, and automate as much of the repetitive work as possible, from user provisioning onwards. As a member of the infrastructure team you'll get stuck into projects across the wider IT estate and pick up a broad mix of work with the rest of the team. We also run workloads on a private cloud platform built on the HPE GreenLake model. Our platforms team looks after the underlying infrastructure, so you'll deploy and manage virtual machines and services on it rather than the platform itself. Experience with AI tooling is a big plus.
What you'll be doing:
- Act as the team's subject matter expert for Azure, setting standards and making the design and best-practice calls
- Lead cloud-to-cloud migrations as we integrate newly acquired businesses, including tenant-to-tenant moves
- Administer and support the Azure estate, including virtual machines, networking, storage, backup and monitoring
- Build and support integrations across Azure, Microsoft 365 and our SaaS platforms, covering single sign-on, provisioning, APIs and connectors
- Automate user provisioning and joiner, mover and leaver processes, and automate repetitive operational work wherever you can
- Manage identity and access across Microsoft Entra ID, including RBAC, MFA and conditional access
- Deploy and manage virtual machines and workloads on our HPE GreenLake private cloud
- Keep the estate secure, compliant and well governed, working closely with security, networking and delivery teams
- Provide technical guidance and act as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues
- Spot where AI tools can improve operational efficiency, monitoring and service delivery across the estate
What success looks like in this role:
- Azure is well run, well documented and has a clear owner the team can go to
- Acquisitions are integrated smoothly, with minimal disruption to users
- Provisioning and repetitive tasks are automated rather than done by hand
- Integrations between platforms are reliable, documented and easy to support
- Identity and access are well governed, with least privilege applied consistently
- Technical issues are resolved efficiently, with clear ownership and communication
Qualifications:
- Strong hands-on Azure administration experience, with the depth to be a team's go-to expert
- Experience leading or delivering cloud-to-cloud migrations, ideally tenant-to-tenant or following an acquisition
- Experience integrating and supporting SaaS applications, including SSO, user provisioning and APIs
- Strong scripting and automation skills, particularly PowerShell; Microsoft Graph API experience is useful
- Good working knowledge of identity and access management with Microsoft Entra ID
- Understanding of security, governance and operational best practice
- Experience managing virtualised workloads in a hybrid or private cloud environment
- Ability to work with a range of stakeholders and communicate technical issues clearly
- Awareness of emerging AI and LLM technologies, and a sense of where they add value in infrastructure operations — a big plus
Skills you'll need to excel:
- The confidence to own a technical area and be the person others come to for answers
- A practical, problem-solving approach to infrastructure engineering
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Clear communication and the ability to work well across teams
- Curiosity about AI-enabled ways of working, and the judgement to apply them appropriately, securely and pragmatically
Other qualifications:
- A degree in IT, computer science, infrastructure engineering or a related field would be useful, but isn't essential
- Relevant certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, identity or security would be an advantage
- Experience working in complex, changing environments with a strong focus on delivery and continuous improvement is desirable
