This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a hands-on operational role overseeing the day-to-day running of a technical workshop and associated stores/logistics, with a strong focus on safety and inventory control.
About the Role:
You’ll be responsible for the full operation of a high-performance technical workshop and test site, ensuring everything from tools to safety protocols is maintained to the highest standards. The role is crucial to supporting engineering and prototype build teams, and will suit someone with a background in low-volume or R&D workshop environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Workshop & Facility Operations
- Maintain a safe, tidy, and efficient workshop and test environment
- Manage servicing, calibration, and maintenance of tools and equipment
- Handle facility improvements, installations, and ongoing maintenance issues
- Conduct weekly safety inspections and ensure rectifications are actioned
- Stores & Inventory Management
- Manage stock levels, ‘goods in’ processes, and component release
- Conduct inventory checks and maintain accurate tracking systems
- Oversee packaging, shipping, and receiving of parts and components
- Support logistics including collections and waste material handling
- Health & Safety Leadership
- Identify risks and implement mitigation plans
- Maintain compliance with H&S and environmental legislation
- Deliver training on workshop safety and emergency procedures
- Carry out internal audits and inspections
- Promote a positive, proactive safety culture
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
- 3+ years' experience in a prototype, low-volume, or technical workshop
- Strong understanding of workshop tools, machinery, and safety protocols
- Hands-on experience managing inventory systems and manual handling practices
- Ability to problem-solve and implement improvements
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
Preferred:
- Familiarity with engineering environments (mechanical, electrical, robotics)
- Knowledge of industry standards and procedures
- Competence with inventory software/systems
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Associate-level qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical, electrical or similar discipline
- UK driving licence
- Able to pass BPSS background checks (required for work in sensitive sectors)
