Role Context: This role sits within a small, business-aligned architecture team working client-side on a government Data Centre Exit programme. The team collaborates to understand enterprise architecture across the entire estate due for migration, with each architect taking ownership of a specific business domain. With the Client contract now awarded, the immediate priority is accelerating onboarding of the Client consortium and driving successful migration of the assigned business domain.
Role Purpose: Act as the primary architectural liaison between the government department and the chosen Client for a specific business domain. Bridge the gap between the client and the Client consortium including its technical and migration teams to ensure optimal cloud adoption and migration success.
- Business Domain Discovery & Knowledge Building
- Rapidly establish deep understanding of the assigned business domain
- Map services, applications, and infrastructure within the domain
- Engage with domain stakeholders, service owners, and business teams
- Understand mission-critical operations, business processes, and user journeys
- Assess business criticality, SLAs, regulatory requirements, and compliance needs
- Build a comprehensive domain knowledge base to accelerate Client onboarding
- Current State Architecture Assessment & Documentation
- Document existing technical architecture for the assigned business domain
- Map application dependencies and integration touchpoints (internal and external)
- Identify data flows, APIs, interfaces, and interconnections
- Assess technical complexity, technical debt, and architectural patterns
- Catalogue infrastructure components servers, storage, networking, middleware, and databases
- Understand performance characteristics, capacity, and peak usage patterns
- Identify security requirements, data sovereignty constraints, and compliance obligations
- Document the as is state ready for Client consortium handover
- Migration Readiness & Complexity Analysis
- Assess migration complexity and effort for domain services
- Map interdependencies that affect migration sequencing
- Identify risks, blockers, technical constraints, and potential showstoppers
- Document integration points that must be maintained throughout transition
- Understand potential migration wave planning and phasing options
- Client-Side Architecture Team Collaboration
- Work as an integral member of the 3–5 person client-side architecture core team
- Collaborate to understand enterprise architecture across the whole estate
- Share knowledge and maintain architectural consistency across domains, including architectural vision, patterns, and standards
- Participate in peer reviews of domain assessments and migration approaches
- Ensure cross-domain integration points are well understood and documented
- Onboarding & Acceleration
- Act as the primary technical contact with the Client consortium for the assigned domain
- Rapidly onboard Client teams with a comprehensive domain knowledge pack
- Accelerate landing zone setup and environment readiness for the domain
- Leverage Client best practices, reference architectures, and migration tooling
- Coordinate Client technical resources and specialist support
- Ensure optimal use of Client migration programmes and accelerators
- Facilitate knowledge transfer from the Client to internal teams
