Job purpose:
The employee performs a full range of maintenance, repair, and service activities on construction machinery. The employee uses considerable independent judgment in making decisions without supervision.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Diagnoses, services, and repairs various systems on heavy equipment, including mechanical and electronic controls, transmissions, pneumatic systems, etc.
- Troubleshoots malfunctions and repairs equipment.
- Repairs and services track drive sprockets, rails, idler wheels, track adjusters, hydraulic systems, and more.
- Serves, diagnoses, and repairs heavy-duty axles, suspensions, and related components.
- Tunes engines, services valves, filters, turbochargers, and performs pressure checks.
- Diagnoses problems, disassembles units, repairs or replaces parts, and reassembles units in various systems.
- Overhauls engines and rebuilds components.
- Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean and organized.
- May assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; trade school graduate preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction and mining machinery industry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of repair and maintenance practices, tools, and materials.
- Understanding of safety procedures.
- Skills in using hand tools, diagnostic equipment, welding, etc.
- Ability to read manuals and schematics, rebuild engines and driveline components.
- Dependability and ability to work independently.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to operate test equipment and troubleshoot effectively.
- Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics.
