Service Tech Class A (CMD - FIELD)

Job purpose:

The employee performs a full range of maintenance, repair, and service activities on construction machinery. The employee uses considerable independent judgment in making decisions without supervision.

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Diagnoses, services, and repairs various systems on heavy equipment, including mechanical and electronic controls, transmissions, pneumatic systems, etc.
2. Troubleshoots malfunctions and repairs equipment.
3. Repairs and services track drive sprockets, rails, idler wheels, track adjusters, hydraulic systems, and more.
4. Serves, diagnoses, and repairs heavy-duty axles, suspensions, and related components.
5. Tunes engines, services valves, filters, turbochargers, and performs pressure checks.
6. Diagnoses problems, disassembles units, repairs or replaces parts, and reassembles units in various systems.
7. Overhauls engines and rebuilds components.
8. Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean and organized.
9. May assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques.
10. Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent; trade school graduate preferred.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction and mining machinery industry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of repair and maintenance practices, tools, and materials.
2. Understanding of safety procedures.
3. Skills in using hand tools, diagnostic equipment, welding, etc.
4. Ability to read manuals and schematics, rebuild engines and driveline components.
5. Dependability and ability to work independently.
6. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
7. Ability to operate test equipment and troubleshoot effectively.
8. Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics.
