Job title: Hybrid Legal Assistant

Location: Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire (2 days office/3 days remote)

Watson Morris was founded by Caroline Watson in November 2022. The firm specialises in all areas of family law and is dedicated to helping clients start or end a relationship with confidence. We combine our legal expertise with practical support that focuses on the wellbeing of our clients and our team.

The role

The successful candidate will assist in delivering our family law services with a strong focus on client satisfaction and provide administrative support. This is a busy role with deadlines to manage and competing priorities, so you will be required to work quickly, accurately, and efficiently and remain calm under pressure.

Key responsibilities

  • Working alongside the director of the company and assisting with case progression relating to divorce, financial remedy proceedings, children proceedings, cohabitation breakdown and the preparation of pre/post nuptial and cohabitation agreements. This will involve drafting applications and other document preparation, speaking to clients over the telephone and communication by email.
  • First point of contact for new client enquiries, whether by telephone, email or through the website.
  • Responsible for inception of new clients, including ordering identification and AML checks and arranging the initial consultation.
  • Attendance at client meetings and court hearings to take notes and arranging room bookings and travel.
  • Responsible for preparing disclosure and court bundles using Adobe Pro.
  • Responsible for preparing invoices and managing cost updates and payments on account.
  • Filing and completing administrative and compliance tasks using the firm’s case management system.
  • Completing file reviews.
  • Researching and booking experts and counsel.
  • Assisting with the management of third party service providers and payment of their invoices and account queries.
  • Assisting with compliance and regulatory requirements and the development and review of firm policies, procedures and precedents.
  • Assisting with business development to include preparation of client and marketing literature, website content and functionality and maintaining the firm’s client relationship manager.
  • Assisting with the booking and organising of networking and training events.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year legal assistant/paralegal experience.
  • Excellent client care skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook. Previous experience of Adobe Pro, Leap, Xero desirable but not essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
