At Watford Community Housing, we are committed to delivering exceptional IT support with a touch of innovation and enthusiasm. We are looking for a dedicated IT Infrastructure Engineer to join us in our mission to ensure the health, performance, and security of our core technology.
What’s the role?
- Systems & Server Administration: Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows/Linux) and manage directory services like Active Directory and Entra ID.
- Network Management: Oversee routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs while administering core services such as DNS and DHCP.
- Security & Data Integrity: Deploy endpoint protection, monitor for breaches, and manage robust data backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) protocols.
- Virtualisation & Cloud: Administer virtualised platforms and manage hybrid cloud resources (IaaS/PaaS) within Microsoft Azure.
- Maintenance & Tier 2/3 Support: Diagnose complex hardware/software issues and maintain detailed technical documentation and system diagrams.
- Innovation: Research and evaluate new technologies‑such as automation and cybersecurity‑to recommend strategic improvements.
What are we looking for?
Essential
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of progressive, hands‑on experience in dedicated System or Network Administration.
- Technical Expertise: Proven proficiency in Windows/Linux Server, VMware/Hyper‑V, and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs).
- Problem‑Solving: Analytical skills for diagnosing complex, multi‑system infrastructure issues.
- Security Focus: A strong commitment to security best practices, including patching and access control.
Desirable
- Cloud & Automation: Experience with Azure IaaS and scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, or Ansible.
- Certifications: Microsoft Azure, Fortinet, VMware, CCNA, or CompTIA Server+/Security+ certifications.
- Frameworks: Familiarity with the ITIL framework for incident and change management.
