The Head of Civil Engineering Design is a key member of the Technical Services Directorate located in Head Office, Enniskillen. He/she will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of professional, technical and administrative staff and the management of consulting engineers, contractors and other suppliers. He/she will be responsible for managing a programme of works and associated budget.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and support to the Senior Management Team and the wider organisation on the planning, management, design, procurement and construction of civil and structural engineering works.
  • Manage the delivery of all aspects of asset maintenance and new infrastructure projects associated with the inland navigable waterway system.
  • Undertake studies and evaluations of possible projects and compile associated reports.
  • Ensure that projects are designed and constructed to appropriate, technical, professional and legal standards.
  • Progress projects through feasibility, design, planning, tender and construction stages.
  • Work closely with the Technical Services Controller to effectively manage and develop capital work projects to programme and budget.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Possess a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Be a Chartered member of a relevant institution, e.g. Engineers Ireland (EI) or Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years' relevant post qualification experience.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years' managing and leading teams at a senior level.
  • Possess experience in the delivery of civil engineering maintenance or capital works in a water-based environment.
  • Possess experience of civil engineering in sensitive natural and built heritage environments.
