Who you’ll be joining
We’re problem solvers at heart. Sometimes the answer is technology, sometimes it is strategy, and sometimes it is a strong cup of tea and a bit of thoughtful conversation. Whatever it takes, we work it out with our clients. We’re an IT consultancy that helps organisations get the best out of their technology. That means keeping them secure and keeping the bad guys out, making sure everything works and is easy to use, and doing smart things with data and software to give their business an edge. It is important work, and we care about doing it well and for the right reasons. Life at Waterstons is friendly, flexible and built on trust. We hire people who are curious, thoughtful and good at getting to the heart of a problem. You get support, trust and room to grow in a place that still feels human. The unlimited holidays and private healthcare are a nice touch, although most people stay because it feels like the right place to do good work with good people.
What You’ll Be Doing
- You’ll be out on client sites working hands‑on with infrastructure across a range of businesses, from professional services firms to manufacturers.
- Some days it’s setting up new starters and resolving desktop issues. Other days it’s working through infrastructure problems with support from the wider team.
- You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of environments and challenges you wouldn’t typically see in a single in‑house IT role.
- This is a great starting point for someone looking to build a long‑term career in infrastructure.
- We work with our clients to improve their IT environments by identifying risks, tightening security, and making systems work better.
- You’ll be part of the team making that happen, supported by experienced engineers.
- This is a hands‑on, client‑facing role based from our London office, with regular time spent working directly on client sites.
Your Day‑to‑Day
- Providing 1st and 2nd line technical support to client end users, diagnosing and resolving issues across hardware, software, and cloud services.
- Getting to know our clients’ environments, including their infrastructure, key applications, and how IT supports their business.
- Carrying out day‑to‑day systems administration including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and basic Windows Server tasks.
- Supporting infrastructure projects such as deployments, upgrades, and migrations.
- Applying patches, following best practice, and identifying potential security risks.
- Documenting work clearly so the wider team can support client environments effectively.
- Continuing to develop technical skills through vendor training and hands‑on experience.
What we’re looking for
- Around 1–2 years’ experience in IT support, whether on a helpdesk or in a junior systems role.
- Experience supporting end users in a professional environment.
- A working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Windows desktop/server operating systems.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts such as DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP.
- Comfortable troubleshooting hardware and software issues including PCs, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
- Experience working with a ticketing system in an ITIL‑aligned environment.
- Clear and professional communication skills and confidence speaking with clients.
- Curious about technology and keen to continue developing your skills.
- Comfortable working in client environments and building relationships.
