Overview
Principal Systems Evaluation Scientist – Wilmslow. Clinical Systems Development is a growing team being created to develop Waters Clinical and IVD Systems, Hardware and Software.
This is a great opportunity to get involved at the outset of a new organisation, with a mission to better meet the unique challenges of our Clinical customers and accelerate the growth of this segment of Waters business. This role will support our verification and validation efforts to ensure that our products are safe, effective and exceed the expectations of our customers.
Responsibilities
- Manage interactions with Waters internal subject matter experts (Development Scientists, Product Owners, Scientific Operations, Service, etc) required to develop high quality System tests that are a fair reflection of expected end use for new clinical systems. Incorporate and trace to User and Product Requirements in a manner suitable for a regulated development environment. Undertake Systems testing and evaluation activities.
- Bring a customer perspective to evaluation activities to help ensure we have a keen understanding to direct purposeful innovation and positively impact current regulatory, marketing, sales and future development.
- Generate proof statement data, publications, documents and protocols to support evaluation of systems, regulated marketing claims, marketing collateral and other services.
- Participate in the training of Waters employees in the use of systems.
- Where required, participate in customer events, internal sales and marketing meetings and scientific conferences, to understand technologies or requirements and communicate these throughout the Waters Division.
- Work with collaborators to understand, develop and evaluate technologies and product options.
- Ensure that health and safety procedures are adhered to at all times
- Ensure that equipment is maintained and serviced properly and that all work is in compliance with Company quality procedures.
- Attend and contribute to project meetings and provide materials requested by the Project Manager to support development gate reviews
- Where appropriate, informally manage a team members to provide support for evaluation activities.
Qualifications
Education:
- A first degree in an Engineering / Science subject in addition to relevant experience in an Engineering / Science related function.
Experience:
- Relevant, hands-on knowledge of Mass Spectrometry or Chromatography and their real-world application gained through industrial experience with a supplier or user of these technologies.
- Experience with a wide range of LC-MS technologies
- Experience of evaluation within a regulated development environment, preferably within Clinical Diagnostics
Competencies:
- Good written and oral communication skills are required, for example to ensure succinct report generation, effective communication with staff, peer groups, etc across organisation.
- Must be able to work independently and communicate with all levels of the organisation.
- Computer literate – knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel an advantage – in order to produce reports, analyse data etc effectively.

- Infrequent international travel may be required.
