Summary/Objective
Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the Lead Engineer owns the engineering design, manufacturing support, and state regulatory compliance for the company’s kiosk products.
This role leads product development from concept through production, ensuring design integrity, manufacturability, quality, cost effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
The Lead Engineer provides technical leadership, manages engineering systems and documentation, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and field operations.
This position also leads and mentors the Compliance /Quality Engineer.
This is a Full time Salary, Exempt, position being offered at $125,000-$145,000 DOE + 25% bonus
Essential Functions
- Engineering Leadership & Oversight
- Lead engineering design and evaluation activities
- Represent the engineering function in cross-departmental initiatives
- Oversee Quality & Compliance engineering activities
- Provide leadership and direction to a small team of engineers
- Manage third-party consultants (electrical, mechanical, programming) as needed
- Product Design & Development
- Use Solid Works to create and revise designs supporting fabrication, machining, welding, electrical integration, and in-house assembly
- Oversee and coordinate the units control system code development (3rd party)
- Select appropriate materials and design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Design fixtures and perform lifting/loading calculations to improve manufacturing processes
- Build and test prototypes to validate new designs or modifications
- Conduct and document field installation testing of prototypes, systems, or units
- Ownership of new and existing products, systems, and designs
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure product compliance with applicable state regulations
- Manage the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process
- Maintain and control Bills of Material (BOM) within the Engineering and ERP systems for new and existing products
- Develop and maintain manufacturing work instructions and standard work documentation
- Utilize ERP systems to integrate engineering and manufacturing processes
- Manufacturing, Supply Chain & Field Support
- Conduct supplier selection analysis in partnership with Procurement to ensure cost, quality, and performance standards are met.
- Collaborate with Technical Services to resolve field performance issues
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis using structured problem-solving tools (8D, A3, 5 whys)
- Participate in process improvements to enhance quality, reliability, and efficiency
- Regular and predictable attendance for required schedule.
- Follow safety guidelines and act in a safe manner.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead, train, and focus a small engineering team
- Advanced proficiency in Solid Works (including training others)
- Experience managing products through full lifecycle (concept to production)
- Experience with ERP systems and engineering integration
- Knowledgeable in manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, and material selection.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems and control system programming
- Strong engineering judgment and independent decision-making ability
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills using proper tools
- High attention to detail and organizational ability
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects

Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or related field preferred)
- Minimum 7 years of engineering experience
- At least 3 years of mechanical engineering experience
- Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers
- Water treatment technologies and ice production/packaging systems
- Technical product support or technical writing
- GD&T and weld documentation standards
- Hands-on fabrication, modification, and 3D printing
- Solid Works PDM administration
- BOM management
- Experience with Acumatica or similar ERP systems
