As a Consultant/Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of highways and infrastructure projects across a range of clients, including local authorities and developers. You will undertake defined elements of technical work with increasing autonomy, applying sound engineering judgement while supporting project teams and developing your professional capability. The role aligns with the CRF by balancing technical delivery, compliance, innovation, and contribution to team and business performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical & Project Delivery: Deliver highways and infrastructure design projects across feasibility, preliminary design, detailed design and construction support stages.
  • Produce designs in accordance with UK standards including DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, TSRGD and local authority specifications.
  • Directly support a project lead or deputy project engineer on highways schemes including junction improvements, active travel, bus priority measures, public realm, highway drainage and development led infrastructure.
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation of design and drawings using Autocad/Civil 3d software, specifications, technical reports and tender documentation.
  • Respond to technical queries during design and construction, including liaison with the client, contractors and site teams.
  • Support road safety audits, design reviews and technical approval processes.
  • Project Support & Client Interface: Manage allocated tasks, programmes and budgets in line with agreed scope and timeline.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, statutory undertakers and internal stakeholders under the guidance of a Project Manager or Associate.
  • Assist with change control and quality assurance processes.
  • Team Support & Mentoring: Provide day to day technical support to the project lead and guidance to graduate and junior engineers.
  • Review and check work produced by less experienced team members.
  • Support staff development through mentoring and contribution to professional development objectives.
  • Promote good design practice and compliance with internal quality systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Essential: Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in highways/infrastructure design within a consultancy or local authority environment.
  • Working knowledge of UK design standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20).
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, drawings and data outputs independently.
  • Desirable: Desire and drive to progress toward IEng/CEng or equivalent professional qualification, via Waterman professional training agreement.
  • Experience across multiple highways disciplines (e.g. drainage, active travel, junction design).
  • Experience supporting construction or site-based activities.
