Waterman Building Structures’ busy Bristol office is looking to recruit a Structural Engineer to join our growing and collaborative team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer with around 1–2 years’ experience to develop their career within a supportive consultancy environment. Working alongside experienced engineers and senior leadership, you will gain exposure to a wide range of projects across multiple sectors while continuing to build your technical and client‑facing skills.
As a Structural Engineer, you will support the design, inspection, and assessment of a variety of structural materials and forms across a broad range of projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and contribute to the successful delivery of projects from concept through to completion. This role offers excellent mentoring and career development opportunities for someone looking to progress towards Chartership in the future.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the structural design, inspection, and assessment of projects across a variety of sectors
- Work on projects within Retail, Industrial, Residential, Telecommunications, Technology, and Leisure sectors
- Support the delivery of projects to agreed quality, budget, and programme targets
- Prepare design calculations, technical reports, and drawings with support from senior engineers
- Liaise with internal teams, consultants, and clients as part of project coordination
- Develop knowledge of relevant design standards, regulations, and best practice
- Work collaboratively within the Structures team to develop innovative engineering solutions
- Support site visits, inspections, and surveys where required
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Around 1–2 years’ experience within a structural engineering consultancy environment
- Understanding of structural design principles across a range of materials
- Experience using structural design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, Tedds, or MasterSeries would be beneficial
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn and develop technically
- A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively within a team
- Desire to work towards Chartership (ICE or IStructE)
You will receive ongoing mentoring and support from experienced engineers and senior leadership within the Bristol office. This role will provide excellent exposure to project delivery, technical development, client interaction, and multidisciplinary working, helping you build the foundations for long‑term career progression within Waterman Group.
