Waterman Group is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Structures team, working on a diverse portfolio of building structures projects across the residential, commercial, mixed-use, retail, education and industrial sectors. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer (typically 5β10 yearsβ experience) who is nearing chartership or recently chartered and is looking to take the next step in their career within a collaborative, multidisciplinary consultancy.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver structural designs for building projects from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
- Carry out structural analysis and design of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber structures.
- Prepare and review calculations, technical reports, and specifications in accordance with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry best practice.
- Coordinate designs with architects, building services engineers, and other disciplines within the wider Waterman Group.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
- Respond to site queries and support projects through construction.
- Attend design team, client, and site meetings as required.
- Contribute to quality assurance, technical reviews, and internal design checks.
- Support bid preparation, fee proposals, and business development activities where appropriate.
About you:
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Typically 5β10 yearsβ experience in a consultancy environment, focused on building structures.
- Strong experience delivering projects across a range of building sectors.
- Solid understanding of UK design standards and codes (Eurocodes, British Standards).
- Confident working independently and leading elements of projects.
- Experience using structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, Tekla Tedds, Robot, SAP2000, or similar.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Working towards chartership or recently chartered with ICE or IStructE (preferred).
