Overview

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you lead highways and infrastructure design delivery, guiding projects from feasibility to construction. You’ll oversee design work, check outputs, mentor graduates, and liaise with clients and authorities to ensure compliant, value-driven solutions. Responsibilities

  • Deliver highways and infrastructure design across feasibility, preliminary, detailed design and construction support stages
  • Produce and check designs to UK standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, TSRGD) and local specs
  • Lead or deputy lead highways schemes including junctions, active travel, bus priority, public realm, drainage and development-led infrastructure
  • Oversee and participate in design/drawings using AutoCAD/Civil 3D; prepare technical reports and tender docs
  • Respond to technical queries with contractors/site teams; support road safety audits and design reviews
  • Manage tasks, programmes and budgets per scope; liaise with clients, authorities and stakeholders
  • Support NEC3/NEC4 contracts and change control; assist with QA processes
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to graduates and junior engineers; review their work
  • Mentor staff development; promote design quality and internal QA standards

Key requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Working toward Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (IEng/CEng)
  • Proven experience in highways and infrastructure design within a UK consultancy or local authority
  • Good working knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets and LTN 1/20
  • Experience delivering schemes for local authorities and/or development-led projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
