Are you a Mechanical Engineer looking to take the next step in your career? Would you like to get involved with delivering some of the world’s most exciting projects and join a dynamic, growing team who are at the forefront of sustainable design? If so, we want you to join our Building Services team in Bristol!

Based in Bristol’s Wapping Wharf, our office is ideally located amongst the local heritage and cultural amenities. Our welcoming and diverse team is working on some of the most prestigious and innovative projects in Bristol, across the UK and around the world. From cutting-edge manufacturing and industrial facilities like the Manufacturing Technology Centre to long-standing government and defence contracts such as Aspire Defence, and from award-winning education developments to major new residential communities, we are supporting schemes across a huge range of sectors.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will be involved in a range of projects from small site surveys through to multi-million-pound schemes. With a varied workload, you will need to exhibit the autonomy to work individually as well as reporting to and having the support of the project Associate or Director and other team members. You will provide support as part of a team in delivering projects effectively, whilst maintaining technical performance standards.

Working as a key member of the team, you will be provided with the autonomy to design Mechanical services in many sectors of the industry and be client facing, representing the Company at all levels.

To fulfil this role, you will need to be degree qualified, or in the process of obtaining your degree (or equivalent), demonstrate suitable design experience in the building services sector (preferably across a variety of sectors) and be an effective communicator, both verbally and in the production of reports and specifications.

Within Waterman we now carry out our projects in the 3D environment and are rolling out StabiCAD design tool across all offices. While a detailed knowledge of this software is not essential (training will be provided), an awareness of working in a 3D environment is, as is a knowledge of cable sizing and lighting design software.

As well as a competitive salary, Waterman has a friendly and professional working environment with a strong team spirit, offering opportunities to work on a variety of projects with many blue-chip clients. Waterman promotes the development of individuals' skills and offers career progression opportunities.

Although we’re happy to consider applicants with more or less experience, you’ll ideally have qualifications, experience or skills in the following areas:

  • Have a relevant degree or equivalent for a career in building services engineering
  • You will have experience in using recognised design software tools such as REVITT and ideally have exposure to MagiCAD
  • Have great communication skills that can adapt both to external parties and clients but also within the team
  • Understand project needs and be able to manage the full delivery
  • You will have recognised qualifications in Mechanical services design and either be working towards Chartered Status, or have an interest in doing so
  • Be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team in support to deliver projects
  • Experience of people management is desirable
  • Future flexibility will be needed for regular co-operation, travel and inter-office working
  • In-house expertise for Mechanical enquiries
