PermanentWaterman Infrastructure & Environment Ltd is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Highways & Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing Civil Engineering team. The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of highways, drainage and infrastructure projects across a diverse range of sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, regeneration, energy and major infrastructure developments.This is a key technical and project delivery role requiring strong engineering, project management and client-facing skills. You will be responsible for managing projects from concept through to construction, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior staff, and delivering innovative, sustainable and buildable solutions that support our clients' development ambitions.The role offers the opportunity to work on major development and infrastructure projects throughout the UK, collaborating with Waterman's multidisciplinary teams across highways, transport planning, flood risk, environmental and structural engineering disciplines. Waterman is recognised for delivering highways, drainage and infrastructure solutions across the complete project lifecycle. **Key Responsibilities****Technical Delivery**• Lead the design and delivery of:* Highways and access strategies* S278 and S38 highway schemes* Residential and commercial development infrastructure* Drainage strategies and detailed drainage design* Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)* Earthworks and site levels design* Private roads and estate infrastructure* Utilities coordination and infrastructure planning* Public realm and external works schemes* Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, drawings and calculations.* Ensure designs comply with relevant standards including:* DMRB* Manual for Streets* Local Authority Design Guides* Sewers for Adoption / Design & Construction Guidance* CIRIA SuDS Manual* National Planning Policy Framework requirements* Develop innovative and sustainable engineering solutions that deliver value and reduce carbon impacts.* Undertake technical reviews and provide quality assurance in accordance with Waterman procedures.**Project Management*** Manage multiple projects simultaneously from feasibility through to construction.* Prepare fee proposals, programmes and resource plans.* Monitor project performance, budgets and profitability.* Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams across Waterman offices.* Manage project risks and opportunities.* Attend and lead design team meetings, client meetings and stakeholder workshops.* Ensure commissions are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.**Client & Stakeholder Management** * Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, Local Authorities, contractors and statutory undertakers.* Act as a key point of contact for clients throughout project delivery.* Present technical solutions and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.* Support negotiations with Highway Authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities and Water Companies.* Identify opportunities for repeat business and support business development activities.**Team Leadership & Mentoring*** Provide day-to-day supervision, support and mentoring to graduate engineers and technicians.* Undertake technical reviews of junior team members' work.* Support staff development and professional training.* Promote a collaborative and positive team culture.* Assist with recruitment and interview activities where required.**Business Development*** Support the preparation of fee proposals and tender submissions.* Contribute technical content to framework and bid opportunities.* Identify opportunities to grow client relationships and develop new work streams.* Represent Waterman at industry events, client meetings and networking activities.**Skills & Experience****Essential*** Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.* Typically 5-10 years' experience in highways and infrastructure engineering consultancy.* Strong experience delivering residential, commercial and mixed-use development infrastructure projects.* Experience of highway, drainage and levels design.* Working knowledge of planning and development processes.**Proficiency in:*** AutoCAD* Civil 3D* InfoDrainage or MicroDrainage* Microsoft Office Suite* Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.* Strong written and verbal communication skills.* Ability to manage workload and priorities effectively.* Full UK driving licence.**Desirable*** Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.**Experience of:*** Section 38, Section 278 and Section 104 agreements* Flood Risk Assessments* Utilities coordination* BIM Level 2 workflows* NEC and traditional forms of contract* Experience managing client relationships and supporting business development activities.**Personal Attributes*** Commercially aware and client-focused.* Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.* Proactive and self-motivated.* Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.* Collaborative and team-oriented.* Commitment to quality, health & safety and continuous improvement.* Passion for delivering sustainable engineering solutions.
