PermanentWaterman Infrastructure & Environment Ltd is seeking a motivated and technically capable Highways & Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing Civil Engineering and Transportation team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of highways, infrastructure, drainage and development engineering projects across a diverse range of sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, logistics, energy, regeneration and major infrastructure developments.Working within Waterman's multidisciplinary consultancy environment, you will collaborate with transport planners, environmental specialists, flood risk consultants, structural engineers and project managers to develop innovative, sustainable and buildable engineering solutions. Waterman is committed to delivering innovative engineering and environmental consultancy services with a strong focus on sustainability, collaboration and achieving net zero outcomes. **Key Responsibilities****Highway Design & Infrastructure Engineering*** Prepare preliminary and detailed highway designs for residential, commercial and infrastructure developments.* Design highway alignments, junction improvements, access roads, roundabouts and active travel infrastructure.* Undertake pavement design and coordinate highway construction specifications.* Develop Section 38, Section 278 and private road designs.* Prepare design drawings, reports and technical documentation using industry-standard software.* Assist in the preparation of technical approval submissions and responses to authority comments.* Support the production of feasibility studies, concept designs and infrastructure strategies.**Drainage & Utilities*** Assist in the preparation of drainage strategies and detailed drainage designs.* Design Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in accordance with current standards and best practice.* Coordinate drainage, utility and highway designs to achieve integrated engineering solutions.* Undertake hydraulic calculations and contribute to flood risk mitigation measures where appropriate.* Liaise with utility providers and statutory undertakers regarding infrastructure requirements.**Project Delivery*** Deliver technical outputs to agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards.* Assist with project management activities including programming, resourcing and commercial reporting.* Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.* Participate in design reviews and quality assurance processes.* Attend project meetings, site visits and client workshops.**Client & Stakeholder Liaison*** Develop strong working relationships with clients, local authorities and project stakeholders.* Support discussions with:* Local Highway Authorities* National Highways* Planning Authorities* Developers* Contractors* Utility Providers* Assist with public consultation and technical approval processes where required.* Present technical information clearly and professionally.* Business Development & Continuous Improvement* Support bid submissions, fee proposals and framework opportunities.* Contribute to knowledge sharing and technical innovation across the business.* Promote Waterman's sustainability objectives and low-carbon design approach.* Participate in professional development activities and work towards Chartership where applicable.**Skills & Experience****Essential*** Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.* Experience within a UK engineering consultancy or contractor environment.* Understanding of highway and infrastructure design principles.* Knowledge of UK design standards and guidance.* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.* Strong written and verbal communication skills.* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.**Desirable*** Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.* Experience of Causeway Flow, MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage.**Knowledge of:*** DMRB* Manual for Streets* Local Authority design guidance* CDM Regulations* SuDS standards and surface water management* Experience preparing Section 38 and Section 278 submissions.* Progress towards ICE or CIHT professional qualification.**Personal Attributes*** Enthusiastic and proactive approach to engineering.* Strong organisational and time-management skills.* Commercial awareness and client-focused mindset.* Commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability.* Desire to learn and develop professionally.* Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines effectively.
