Job Title: Carriage Works Supervisor
Location: The Watercress Line – Ropley Station – On site working required
Salary: Competitive
Job Type: Permanent Full Time 40 hours per week (with 30 minutes paid break) – 5 days over 7. Regular weekend, evening and holiday working will be required.
Hours: Core working hours are 0815 – 1700, however a reasonable amount of flexibility is essential
Holidays: 31 days including bank holiday allowance

The Watercress Line a heritage steam railway operated by award-winning volunteers and supported by paid staff, bringing smiles to faces through the beautiful Hampshire countryside for 50 years.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, experienced Carriage Works Supervisor to supervise staff, volunteers and apprentices to support the railway in all aspects of maintaining and refurbishing our fleet of mainly Mk1 coaches.
As a Carriage Works Supervisor, the responsibilities of the role will be:
- Managing a team of 3-4 staff including apprentices and a number of volunteers
- Regular inspections of the carriage fleet.
- Work to control operational costs and manage resources whilst maintaining standards of productivity.
- Carrying out repairs
- Overhaul and testing of vacuum brake systems.
- Maintenance and repair of plumbing and electrical systems
- Repairing of coach interiors, doors and locks.
Knowledge Skills and Experience required:
Essential;
- Railway engineering workshop environment experience
- Experience of working or volunteering on Mk1 coaches.
- Complementary transferable engineering skills – hand skills
- Reading and understanding an engineering instruction manual
- Experience of supervising staff and organising and delegating tasks
- Ability to train people to task
Desirable;
- Experience in shunting railway yards
- Experience of working with volunteers
- Driving licence
- Metal fabrication
- Understanding of basic electrics
- Ability to work in Imperial
