Our client is an award winning civil and environmental engineering company delivering effective solutions for the maintenance and management of the UK’s waterways. The company is restoring a wetland habitat in Rainham, re-using material generated from in-house dredging operations on the Thames, and major infrastructure projects. The main site activity utilises the company’s own wharf to unload and transport materials from barges and managing the disposal of those materials once onsite. The jetty facility is an approved port allowing ships to be loaded/unloaded with bulk waste cargoes. In addition to this, planning has been approved for a Soil-Washing Facility.

The company is looking to recruit a Works Manager to lead day-to-day site delivery on the restoration project, managing a small, multidisciplinary team and subcontractors to achieve quality, safety, environmental and cost targets. The Works Manager sets the tone on site—a ‘hands-on’ team player and clear communicator who plans, solves problems early, and fosters a strong safety and collaboration culture.

Candidate requirements:

  • Demonstrable track record in planning works, coordinating interfaces, and driving safe, right-first-time delivery.
  • Solid understanding of RAMS, permits, lifting ops, and control of subcontractors.
  • Quality management mindset.
  • Calm under pressure, solutions-focused, and highly organised.
  • Visible safety leadership and integrity.
  • Pride in workmanship and site presentation.
  • Strong team player who builds trust and motivates all members of the team.
  • Clear, consistent communicator—able to brief simply, listen actively, and escalate early. Possesses Emotional Intelligence & self-awareness.
  • Confident chairing daily and weekly look-ahead briefings; concise written records.
  • CSCS or SMSTS desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence.

This is a full-time role based on site in Rainham. Work hours are 7:00am-5:30pm, Mon-Fri.
