We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join Wasing’s Gardening Team to help maintain the Estate’s beautiful & varied gardens. Wasing is one of the most diverse Estates in England and covers 3,500 acres of Berkshire countryside. Over the years, the Estate has diversified and placed hospitality at its core to become one of the leading exclusive use venues in the country and plays host to weddings, corporate events for high profile businesses, public events, retreats and festivals. From the secluded and tranquil Walled Garden with Victorian glasshouse to stunning Wasing Park, as one of the Country’s most acclaimed Wedding and Event venues the grounds and parkland are of utmost importance.

Reporting to: Head Gardener

Job Summary: The Gardener will be responsible for supporting the Head Gardener in all aspects of the maintenance and improvement of the Estate grounds and ornamental gardens on this privately owned Estate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Head Gardener and Gardening Team to maintain the gardens to an agreed style and high standard.
  • Maintain all aspects of the gardens across the estate which includes lawns, flowerbeds, pathways, hedge-cutting, tree avenues, fruit trees, container planting, watering and rental property maintenance.
  • Mowing of lawns with pedestrian and ride-on machinery.
  • Use of hand tools and machinery including hedge-cutters, strimmers and blowers.
  • Help to develop new areas of the garden from design to completion.
  • Have a willingness to undertake a wider range of other duties as required by the estate.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A horticultural qualification or a minimum of 2 years relevant experience in professional garden maintenance.
  • Good working knowledge of gardens and their management.
  • Good plant knowledge.
  • Experience of a variety of garden machinery.
  • Understanding of good Health and Safety practices in horticulture.

Skills:

  • Full driving license.
  • Practical Horticulture and Grounds Maintenance.
  • Excellent customer communication and relationship building skills.
  • Able to operate within a team or on own initiative.

Schedule:

  • Full-time position (40 hours per week) – Monday to Friday (with flexibility to cover weekends when required).
  • Part-time position (24 hours per week) – Friday to Sunday.

  • Loyalty bonus.
  • Performance bonus.

Ability to Commute / Relocate: Aldermaston, Berkshire: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required).

Experience: Garden Maintenance: 2 years (required).

License / Certification: Full UK Driving License (required).
