We are seeking a hands-on, experienced Lead Engineer to manage and guide a shift engineering team in delivering reactive and planned electrical and mechanical maintenance. The role ensures reliability and performance of production units, fabrication equipment, machinery, and site services. It requires 24/7 on-call duty in rotation with engineering managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily team of maintenance engineers, assigning PPMs, work orders and breakdowns as they arise.
- Manage contractors and site service providers as defined in the maintenance plan.
- Manage breakdowns to minimise lost time in manufacturing and communicate effectively with Managers in Manufacturing, Technical & Supply Chain teams.
- Decide when to utilise contractors for breakdowns in partnership with Engineering Managers.
- Conduct daily team huddles and report on team performance at daily site meetings.
- Supervise the maintenance team to ensure all activities are carried out safely, on time and to required quality.
- Sign off tool checks.
- Train team members on Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) routine delivery.
- Support creation and documentation of Safety Risk Assessments in line with company Health & Safety requirements.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company Safety, Quality & Environmental standards.
- Raise near misses and report all unsafe conditions via the company safety management system.
- Ensure machines/areas worked on are handed back to manufacturing in a controlled manner.
- Perform 24/7 on-call duties in rotation: one week every two weeks.
- Support implementation of new machinery & equipment.
- Prioritise and solve machine breakdowns to minimise lost time.
- Complete Machine Breakdown Reports (MBRs) to prevent recurrence using root-cause analysis.
- Design out recurring breakdowns using 8-Step Practical Problem Solving.
- Create & continuously improve PPM routines to increase equipment reliability.
Requirements
- Strong electrical, mechanical & PLC control capabilities.
- Qualification: HNC/HND Electrical BIAS, NVQ Level 3 Electrical maintenance, BTEC Electrical Engineering, or City & Guilds in Electrical Engineering.
- Preferable experience in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), shelf-life chilled manufacture.
- Prior leadership experience.
- Excellent communication skills for cross-department collaboration.
- Systematic and iterative approach to enhance processes, products and operations.
- Experience with CCMS is advantageous.
