Job Description
We’re looking for officers who hold the AFO role profile including newly qualified AFOs who wish to transfer into Warwickshire. The ARV’s are responsible for providing a response to armed incidents within the county and to provide support to other functions, such as roads policing, OCG enforcement and pro‑active policing via intel and ANPR based patrols. As a smaller force with a limited number of armed assets available you will be deployed to all armed incidents that occur during your tour of duty as well as providing support to planned deployments. Warwickshire Police operate a voluntary call‑out function to provide contingencies to armed operations. Warwickshire Police ARV staff do not currently hold an investigative workload.
We will provide opportunities to develop your skills and training either within the firearms role or wider policing functions to support your career. This includes OFC roles, instructing if you aspire to become a National Firearms Instructor, close protection, or promotion development programmes.
Additional training and CPD opportunities are available, including TPAC and CBRN uplift training. The 5‑shift system is a 10‑week rotation of 12‑hour shifts for 8 weeks, followed by 2 weeks of Monday‑Thursday 8‑hour shifts for training. Staff have access to Force gyms and an active sports & social club.
Salary and Payments
- Salary £31,164–£50,256
- One‑off payment of £1,000 on successful transfer to Warwickshire Police
- Annual target variable payment (TVP) £1,500 per annum for AFOs, reviewed yearly
- Additional annual TVP £750 per annum for OFCs in command roles, reviewed yearly
- Use of gym facilities
- Opportunities for role progression as PC OFC, close protection officer and National Firearms Instructor (subject to availability)
- Enhanced training: advanced driving grade desirable; TPAC training available on post
- Work location: wherever in Warwickshire
Application Criteria
- Constable with substantive rank serving or having served with a Home Office Force or British Transport Police
- Current Authorised Firearms Officer, trained to the National ARV role profile
- Ability to pass and maintain the fitness test level 9‑4
- Offer subject to approval of training records by the CFI
- No outstanding discipline or integrity issues
- Successfully completed probationary period prior to application
Desirable Criteria
- Hold the OFC role profile
- Current advanced police driver with TPAC certification
- Current ARVO with CBRN uplift training (or willingness to receive such training)
- Current National Firearms Instructor, firearms tactical advisor or close protection officer
