Become an On-Call Firefighter with Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service. Protect and support your local community by joining as an On-Call Firefighter. We are recruiting for the following fire stations: Wellesbourne, Southam, Polesworth, and Henley-in-Arden. The recruitment window for applications is 2 February 2026 to 2 March 2026 at 12:00hrs, with applications, assessment stages, and training proceeding according to the schedule below.
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergencies via an alerter during agreed night-time On-Call cover (19:00β07:00).
- Attend emergencies in the local community while carrying a pager and working as part of a professional team.
- Complete required training and participate in drills as scheduled by the Fire Service.
Requirements
- Aged 18 or above on or before the initial course date.
- Able to reach the station within five minutes of being alerted; if responding by vehicle, this must be at normal road speed.
- Able to attend a drill session once a week at the On-Call station.
- Holding a GCSE Grade C (or Level 4) in Maths and English or above pre-qualifies you; Written Ability Tests may not be required depending on qualifications.
Hours and Work Arrangements
On-Call Firefighters provide a flexible night-time cover and are not always based at Fire Stations. They usually live or work in the local community. They do the same emergency work as Wholetime Firefighters, and may also have other jobs. On duty, you will carry a pager that activates when you need to attend an incident.
Pay and Benefits
On-Call Firefighters receive a basic salary based on the hours of cover provided and are paid extra for call outs, training courses, and drill sessions.
What Happens Next
If you are successful in all assessments and pre-employment checks, you will be invited to attend the initial recruit training course (dates to be confirmed).
