Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service is looking for a dedicated and professional Driving Instructor (Driver Trainer) to join our Training and Development team. This role shapes the skills and confidence of our operational workforce, ensuring drivers are equipped to respond safely, effectively and professionally in high‑pressure environments. The instructor will influence behaviour, build capability and embed a culture of safety and excellence across the Service.
Responsibilities
- Deliver practical and theoretical driver training across all vehicle categories.
- Train and assess staff to become Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) and Emergency Response drivers.
- Monitor and assess driving standards, providing clear, constructive feedback.
- Design and develop driver training programmes and courses.
- Maintain accurate training records in line with legislation and awarding body requirements.
- Provide specialist vehicle and equipment training.
- Ensure all training is delivered in line with health and safety standards and best practice.
- Support continuous improvement by advising on driver training, legislation and operational practice.
- Fulfil the Fluency Duty – provide accurate spoken English to the public.
Qualifications
- A full, clean UK driving licence including categories B, B+E, C, D1, D1+E (held for a minimum of 3 years).
- DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) or working towards this.
- Experience driving a range of vehicles, including LGVs.
- An assessor qualification (or equivalent) in competence assessment.
- Strong understanding of vehicle and driving legislation.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
Pre‑engagement Checks
Successful applicants will be subject to a range of pre‑engagement checks, including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. In accordance with the DBS code of practice, a declared criminal offence will be assessed. The employer adheres to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
