Department: Research Technology Platforms
Fixed Term End Date: 30 September 2028
Hours: Full-time (1.0 FTE)
Full time Salary Range: Β£36,320 - Β£46,970 per annum
About the Role
The University of Warwick seeks to appoint a Facility Officer to join the Warwick Centre for Ultrafast Spectroscopy (go.warwick.ac.uk/WCUS) to establish new ultrafast optical microscopy experiments and to deploy the systems in scientific applications in the physical sciences.
A particular focus will be to build ultrafast optical microscopy capabilities that reveal information on femtosecond material dynamics simultaneously with nanoscale 3D spatial information. This new transient absorption microscopy facility will use visible and infrared light to track key photochemical and photophysical pathways in four research themes: energy, catalysts, quantum and health. Later in the project, when the capabilities are validated, the ability to train new users in the effective and safe use of the apparatus will become increasingly important.
The Facilities Officer will be part of a dynamic and active team at Warwick working on a variety of topics in the ultrafast science and technology areas.
The post is available with a fixed term 2-year contract and a start date of 1st January 2027 or sooner. Subject to the successful demonstration of the new capabilities the post has the potential to be extended.
For details on the experience and skills required, please refer to the job description (link here).
About You
You are encouraged to apply if you have expertise developing ultrafast microscopy experiments, or relevant experience using femtosecond lasers to create ultrafast pump/probe spectrometers. You will be an excellent communicator capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a research team. You will possess excellent planning and time management skills to ensure your research objectives are achieved effectively. You will have the potential to be good at training and supporting users to undertake experiments in a safe and efficient manner.
About the Department
Warwick Centre for Ultrafast Spectroscopy (WCUS)
The WCUS is a Research Technology Platform at the University of Warwick, which provides ultrafast spectroscopy beamlines to researchers in disparate areas of physics, chemistry, biology and engineering and from across the UK and with >40 users per year. WCUS houses facilities for optical pump/THz probe (OPTP) and THz pump/THz probe (TPTP) spectroscopies in addition to IR and UV-vis pump-probe and steady-state techniques. More information on WCUS and the Ultrafast and Terahertz Photonics research group, in Physics, can be found at go.warwick.ac.uk/wcus and go.warwick.ac.uk/ultrafast .
