Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and organised Bookkeeper to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a varied, hands-on position that would suit someone who enjoys working in a small business environment, taking ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping activities while supporting the wider business with financial administration.
Please note: Experience processing weekly payroll for temporary workers within a recruitment, staffing or labour supply environment is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be confident working to strict payroll deadlines, ensuring accuracy and compliance while supporting a high-volume temporary workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Raising and issuing invoices for services provided
- Managing purchase and sales ledger transactions
- Credit control and chasing outstanding payments
- Performing monthly control account reconciliations
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Processing staff expenses
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Payroll ledger reconciliations
- Processing and reconciling weekly payroll for temporary workers
- Managing payroll-related queries and ensuring accurate payroll records
- Managing and reconciling GoCardless payments
- Conducting bank reconciliations
- Producing ad hoc financial reports and analysis
- Liaising with clients, suppliers and colleagues regarding financial matters
- Supporting general administrative duties as required
About You
You will be an experienced Bookkeeper who is comfortable working independently and managing a broad range of financial responsibilities within a small to medium-sized business environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years' bookkeeping experience
- Previous experience within an SME environment
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online
- Experience using GoCardless
- Previous experience processing weekly payroll for temporary workers within a recruitment, staffing or labour supply business
- Experience managing high-volume payrolls with strict weekly deadlines
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation, statutory payments, pension auto-enrolment and payroll reconciliations
- Credit control and debtor management experience
- Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Experience processing payroll journals and reconciliations
- Strong bank and control account reconciliation skills
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable Skills
- AAT qualification or equivalent bookkeeping qualification
- Experience assisting with monthly management accounts
- Experience working within a recruitment, HR, staffing, professional services or accountancy environment
- Experience processing umbrella, PAYE or contractor payrolls
