Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and organised Bookkeeper to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a varied, hands-on position that would suit someone who enjoys working in a small business environment, taking ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping activities while supporting the wider business with financial administration.

Please note: Experience processing weekly payroll for temporary workers within a recruitment, staffing or labour supply environment is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be confident working to strict payroll deadlines, ensuring accuracy and compliance while supporting a high-volume temporary workforce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Raising and issuing invoices for services provided
  • Managing purchase and sales ledger transactions
  • Credit control and chasing outstanding payments
  • Performing monthly control account reconciliations
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Processing staff expenses
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Payroll ledger reconciliations
  • Processing and reconciling weekly payroll for temporary workers
  • Managing payroll-related queries and ensuring accurate payroll records
  • Managing and reconciling GoCardless payments
  • Conducting bank reconciliations
  • Producing ad hoc financial reports and analysis
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers and colleagues regarding financial matters
  • Supporting general administrative duties as required

About You

You will be an experienced Bookkeeper who is comfortable working independently and managing a broad range of financial responsibilities within a small to medium-sized business environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' bookkeeping experience
  • Previous experience within an SME environment
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online
  • Experience using GoCardless
  • Previous experience processing weekly payroll for temporary workers within a recruitment, staffing or labour supply business
  • Experience managing high-volume payrolls with strict weekly deadlines
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, statutory payments, pension auto-enrolment and payroll reconciliations
  • Credit control and debtor management experience
  • Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Experience processing payroll journals and reconciliations
  • Strong bank and control account reconciliation skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable Skills

  • AAT qualification or equivalent bookkeeping qualification
  • Experience assisting with monthly management accounts
  • Experience working within a recruitment, HR, staffing, professional services or accountancy environment
  • Experience processing umbrella, PAYE or contractor payrolls
