Turn evidence into impact. We’re looking for a Senior Research Manager to lead & deliver sharp, practical research across economic development, innovation and social policy. This role suits someone who thrives in consulting: balancing rigour with pragmatism, working closely with clients and stakeholders, and delivering on time and budget while valuing flexibility and autonomy.
You’ll lead smaller commissions and manage defined workstreams within larger programmes, taking responsibility for delivery, from scoping and design through to insight, reporting and client engagement. You’ll play a key role in shaping evidence‑based recommendations, supporting business development, and acting as a trusted adviser to both clients and colleagues.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and deliver consultancy‑focused research projects and workstreams
- Translate complex evidence into clear, decision‑ready insights
- Design and lead qualitative research, including interviews, focus groups and workshops
- Manage projects to agreed budgets, timelines and quality standards
- Draft high‑quality reports, briefings and presentations for senior audiences
- Contribute to bids, proposals and client development activity
- Provide informal leadership, mentoring and quality assurance
- Represent the organisation confidently with clients, partners and stakeholders
About you
You’ll bring six or more years’ experience in consultancy, research or a closely related setting, alongside a postgraduate qualification in economic development or a relevant discipline (e.g. economics, geography, planning, statistics or social science).
You are:
- Commercially aware and comfortable working in client‑facing environments
- An excellent writer, able to produce persuasive, well‑structured outputs
- Confident managing projects, priorities and stakeholders
- Experienced in contributing to tenders and proposals
- Thoughtful and responsible in your use of AI and digital tools
- Clear, credible and professional in written and spoken English
