We are now looking for a motivated (Senior) Technical Expert Propulsion to join our technical service team of 11 highly skilled experts working on Wärtsilä systems both electrically and mechanically covering 4-stroke, 2-stroke and propulsion. The current Propulsion expert team consists of 3 skilled experts. You serve both internal and external customers with all operational technical inquiries related to Wärtsilä Propulsion Equipment. You will provide this support in the field of installation, maintenance and troubleshooting for related equipment.

You will report to General Manager Technical Services Central Europe Region. The preferred location for the position is Glasgow, United Kingdom.

What will you be doing?

  • Manage complex technical and operating problems of the customer and internal stakeholders to reach quality with on-time support and to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in customer and/or vendor meetings as a technical expert, when complex technical matters are handled.
  • Perform troubleshooting and technical field investigations and screening of field service reporting.
  • Visit sites when deeper product, system and/or performance analysis is needed.
  • Analyse field experience and customer feedback data to improve the products and solutions as well as operation and maintenance of the installation.
  • Make complex analysis with adequate conclusions, recommendations and writing logical understandable reports.
  • Be responsible for handling Technical Requests received from internal and external customers.
  • Communicate directly with internal and external customers related to technical enquiries.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • A safety-first mind-set.
  • Degree in Mechanical engineering, Marine Engineering or equivalent.
  • A high level of mechanical and automation experience with Wärtsilä propulsion equipment.
  • Experience with non-Wärtsilä propulsion equipment is a strong plus.
  • The propulsion products consist of a variety of Steerable- and Transverse Thrusters, Controllable Pitch Propellers, Reduction Gears, Electric Pods, Water Jets, reduction gearboxes, rudders and related control systems.
  • Experience in a service support role with propulsion equipment or with other large rotating equipment, especially with Wärtsilä products (field service / engineering).
  • A true team player with a proactive approach and technical reporting skills who engages and collaborates with others to deliver results.
  • You are a strong communicator with good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Positive mindset and open to learning new things.
  • Proactive customer focused with a service minded attitude.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and the local language of your location (German or Dutch).
  • You are willing to travel occasionally.
