Water and Waste business unit (WAW) is a global leader in designing and supplying innovative wet and dry waste equipment and freshwater generation solutions for passenger vessels and conventional waste management and ballast water treatment equipment for all marine segments. WAW has the industry’s broadest product offering to secure beyond compliant operations for our marine customers.
We have a unique and exciting opportunity for a new Compliance Officer for the Wartsila Water Systems Ltd business, based in UK, Poole, Dorset on a permanent, full-time basis. As the Compliance Officer you will ensure our organisation adheres to relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. You will mitigate legal and financial risks by developing and implementing compliance programs, conducting risk assessments, and monitoring adherence to established standards. Your role will be crucial in maintaining ethical conduct and avoiding potential penalties. It will support the teams’ ability to complete effective management of inbound and outbound logistics requirements, consolidation and stocking of materials and managing relationships with transportation and warehousing providers.
What will you be doing?
- Developing and implementing compliance programs
- Manage export & import compliance processes, including licence applications, customs transactions and record keeping
- Conduct screening and due diligence activities
- Support audits, commodity classification and licence tracking
- Support with dangerous goods classification and legislation adherence
- Creating and updating policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements and internal standards
- Identifying and evaluating potential compliance risks within the organisation
- Ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, and internal policies through audits and other monitoring activities
- Educating employees about compliance requirements and promoting a culture of compliance
- Investigating potential violations and irregularities
- Providing regular updates to management on compliance status and performance
- Maintain safe working practices for self and others in accordance with the Company’s policy on Health and Safety
You will shine in this role when you have/recognise/demonstrate:
- Confidence in coordinating and prioritising daily activities and urgent requests with relevant colleagues to find satisfactory solutions.
- 3+ years’ experience in trade compliance or export control
- Knowledge of UK/EU export control laws and preferably ITAR / EAR / Military regulations
- Experience with export licensing and customs compliance
- Excellent communication skills, fluency in the English language, both verbal and written.
- A team player with a “Doer” attitude.
- Understanding of customs, Import and Export Reporting skills and data knowledge
