We are now looking for a

Simulation Engineer to join Wärtsilä Defence Solutions Limited on a permanent basis in Havant, UK.

  • What you will be doing
  • Perform dynamic simulations, including shock, vibration, modal, acoustic and structural dynamics analysis.
  • Develop and maintain Finite Element Analysis models for naval platforms, onboard equipment, piping, shaftline products and shock‑mounting systems.
  • Translate naval shock and vibration requirements into equipment and system‑level design constraints.
  • Correlate simulation models with physical test data and prepare compliance evidence for customers and naval authorities.
  • Contribute to design improvements and help develop engineering guidelines, best practices and knowledge‑sharing tools.
  • Share technical expertise and support colleagues and cross‑functional project teams.
  • Support planning, risk management, technical governance and compliance with business, export control, data control and QEHS requirements.
  • To thrive in this role, you will bring
  • A degree, or equivalent qualification, in Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace, Marine Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in structural dynamics, shock physics, vibroacoustic, finite element analysis or a related simulation discipline.
  • Experience using simulation tools such as Ansys, Abaqus, or similar software.
  • Experience in naval, defence or maritime engineering environments would be beneficial, however we also welcome applications from candidates with transferable experience from related industries.
  • Strong technical reporting, planning and stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain the required UK security clearance.
  • To be successful in this role, we expect you to have
  • Awareness of export control regulations, governance frameworks, cyber security standards and quality management systems.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience working within complex organisations and balancing multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make sound, evidence‑based decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • A high level of integrity and commitment to good governance.
  • A proactive approach with a continuous improvement mindset and enthusiasm for learning and development.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.

Please note that this position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain the appropriate Security Clearance (SC level).
