Job Title: Control Systems Engineer (Remote)
Location: Peterborough, England (Remote with UK Travel)
Salary: £52,000 – £58,000 per annum (inclusive of shift pay, dependent on experience)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer to support a diverse portfolio of power generation assets across the UK. This role involves ensuring the reliability and efficiency of various power plants, including gas turbines and diesel reciprocating generating units. The engineer will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting control systems, ensuring compliance with strict safety and environmental regulations.
This is a remote-based position with extensive travel required across the UK to support operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the control systems expert, developing expertise in a variety of control systems.
- Identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed documentation of performance, issues, repairs, and modifications.
- Analyse system logs to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Support EC&I Technicians and Engineering teams in troubleshooting issues.
- Provide on-site technical expertise and communicate any observed issues at the plant.
- Collaborate with third-party control system engineering support.
- Design, implement, and modify control systems, including SCADA, DCS, PLC programming, HMI updates, and control panel layouts.
- Ensure adherence to all safety rules, procedures, and compliance regulations.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in control system technologies and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Strong understanding of control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA/DCS, networks, servers/drives, and data handling.
- Proven experience in designing layouts, control panels, and wiring schematics.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (GE Fanuc Machine Edition, Siemens SIMATIC S7/WinCC essential; Allen Bradley Studio 5000, Woodward GAP desirable).
- Expertise in HMI graphical application development.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Ethernet, Modbus).
- Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Basic understanding of compressible flow characteristics (natural gas, air) and experience with field equipment troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems for maintenance management.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A valid and unrestricted driving licence.
Working Conditions & Requirements:
- Remote working with extensive UK travel to support power plant assets.
- Work within power plant environments, requiring physical activity such as climbing ladders and lifting up to 15kg.
- Use of protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, etc.).
- Participation in a Fitness for Duty Programme, including drug screening.
- Standard work schedule: Monday–Friday, 37 hours/week (08:00–16:00, early finish at 15:30 on Fridays) with overtime opportunities available.
