About us

The Democratic Services team ensures the smooth operation of local government by coordinating council meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, and advising on governance and legal procedures. They also support public engagement, uphold transparency, and assist councillors in fulfilling their democratic responsibilities. The team plays a pivotal role in supporting the Mayor and Deputy Mayor in their ceremonial and community leadership duties, ensuring civic events are conducted professionally and engagements are managed efficiently.

The role

We are seeking a Mayoral Attendant to support the Democratic Services Section at Warrington Borough Council. You will work 7 hours per week, primarily on Monday, Wednesday, and weekends. The role operates under an annualised hours system with an irregular schedule, including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays. Enhanced pay rates are provided according to Council policy.

What’s needed?

In this role, you will:

  1. Support the Mayor, Mayoress/Consort, Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayoress/Consort at functions and events, acting as announcer and toastmaster as needed.
  2. Provide chauffeur services for the civic car, ensuring it is in immaculate condition, properly maintained, and checked before engagements.
  3. Care for and safekeep the Mayoral insignia, robes, and regalia, returning them to secure locations after use.
  4. Perform ceremonial duties at civic events.
  5. Conduct tours of the Town Hall for visitors, explaining its history and civic regalia.
  6. Report to the Senior Democratic Services Officer and support the team that serves the first Citizen of Warrington.
