Job Description
Overseeing and being responsible for the day to day running of the transport operation to ensure that all daily targets are met in the most cost effective, efficient and safe manner in line with our policies and procedures. To take responsibility for supporting aspects of the teams performance whilst encouraging and leading continuous improvement activities within the department.
Working hours: Monday to Friday
Key Duties:
- Actively promote and ensure compliance with transport policies, procedures and legislation.
- Responsible for vehicle management, including liaising with the fleet team.
- Ensure compliance with transport legislation.
- Managing incidents and accidents including environmental incidents on our in house H&S Systems.
- Ensure all vehicles are operated in a roadworthy condition.
- Resource planning and cost-effective utilisation of all drivers and equipment.
- Key accountability for promoting and maintaining health and safety standards in line with Culina policies and procedures.
- Understanding the wider business objectives and in line with this, looking for ways in which to reduce cost and improve service.
- Proactively seeks to understand financial performance of the operation and takes ownership for addressing inefficiencies which impact on the depot’s P&L.
- Actively develop the Transport team in increasing engagement, communication and people development.
- To lead, develop and manage direct reports in a positive, energetic and consistent manner.
- To lead and partner with Health & Safety representative on local and site initiatives including H&S induction and training.
- Seeks to improve and maintain people KPI’s including attrition, absence, accident and H&S.
- Ensure & oversee that an effective vehicle defect reporting system is in place.
- In conjunction with the fleet team, work to ensure vehicle maintenance planning is accurate and legal.
- Manage and develop the team of Drivers and planners in order to deliver a high-quality service to customers.
- Maintain communication and relationships with all suppliers.
Qualifications:
- Experience in a Transport Management.
- Experience of resource management / cost control.
- Transport Manager's CPC qualification.
- Experience in managing an Operator's Licence.
- Understanding of Health and Safety processes.
- Experience in managing people and leading teams.
- Able to form and build strong relationships quickly.
- Excellent Microsoft Office knowledge including Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
- Able to manage own time and is able to prioritise workload.
