About the role

Our new Chief Technology and Data Officer will be critical in re-imagining how Macmillan delivers world-leading customer experiences, how we leverage external data partners to identify and fix the critical inequalities in the healthcare system and how we build on our heritage to ensure we continue to inspire, empower and galvanise the UK public to become part of the Macmillan community. This role will drive the data, digital and tech agenda, to embrace digitally enabled innovation and disruption to really spark a revolution in cancer care.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Be a strategic partner to the Board of Trustees and the Executive Team.
  2. Evolve, develop, and lead the Technology strategy implementation to contribute to our overall Macmillan strategy. Drive understanding, buy-in and alignment to the Technology strategy across a wide range of stakeholder groups.
  3. Define and maintain the technology roadmap that supports the strategy, planning and delivery of upgrades to services to ensure that they meet the current and future needs.
  4. Identify and shape change initiatives and sequence them to deliver on the agreed transformation objectives, ensuring that they maximise value delivered.
  5. Build partnerships with other organisations and lead the procurement of large-scale programme of change to further our digital, data and technology goals.
  6. Oversee the technology and data architecture and technology choices to ensure that systems are aligned to the strategy and fit for purpose.
  7. Be visible and collaborative, a leader for the Technology team and Macmillan more widely, role-modelling Macmillan’s values, behaviours, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  8. Create an inclusive environment that supports and fosters learning and growth, ensuring that our technology colleagues can achieve their full potential and that their skills are utilised in a way that helps drive our goals and strategy.
  9. Foster sound commercial decision making and financial management by tracking ROI and optimising efficiencies, ensuring financial control over technology expenditure, maximising value for money, and delivering services within budget.

Essential Experience

  1. Proven experience of designing and delivering an impactful enterprise-aligned data and technology strategy.
  2. Experience as a member of the Executive Team, collaborating, supporting and constructively challenging fellow team members and setting the thought leadership agenda around all things data and digital.
  3. Have a track record of driving a cultural shift to a highly engaged, high performing, multi-skilled and diverse team with a truly inclusive culture.
  4. A history of promoting and cultivating a learning and growth mindset, to allow for greater curiosity, and innovation and active sharing of learning and best practice.
  5. Passionate about driving change, innovation and transformation and leads in a way that engages, motivates and gets others on board, effectively persuading and influencing a variety of stakeholders as needed.
  6. A leadership style which role models through their own behaviour and actions, and embeds change by inspiring, coaching, holding self and others to account.
