Forest House Medical Centre are looking to recruit a Health Care Assistant to join our friendly team, due to our rapidly growing patient list size and expansion of the Group. The ideal candidate will already possess experience of being a Health Care Assistant and want to seek further opportunities to develop and build on an already established career. The ideal candidate will hold an NVQ level 3 in Clinical Healthcare Support or equivalent and have experience of working in Primary Care/Secondary Care or with the Community along with practical clinical experience.

Duties will include:

  • Phlebotomy
  • Blood pressure
  • INR testing
  • Dressings
  • B12, Pneumonia and Flu vaccine administration
  • Health Checks and diabetes annual reviews

Experience with SystmOne is an advantage but training will be provided. The practice holds regular multidisciplinary team meetings including clinical and safeguarding meetings to which you are encouraged to attend. Main duties of the job:

  • Performing minor clinical procedures following practice guidelines and protocols (full training will be given), to include:
    • Weighing patients
    • Setting up the 24-hour blood pressure monitor
    • Urinalysis for glucose and protein
    • Patient Health checks
    • H. Pylori breath tests
    • Ear Syringing
    • INR testing (using the COAGUCHECK equipment), Using the INR star software to enter INR test results
    • Dressings
  • Supporting other clinical procedures, performed by clinical staff, to include:
    • Preparing the necessary equipment for clinical procedures
    • Acting as chaperone, at the request of patients or doctors, for certain examinations.
  • Treatment room supplies and equipment:
    • Ensuring adequate stocks of medical supplies in all consulting rooms
    • Ordering stocks of medical supplies
    • Recording of vaccine usage and maintaining stock control
    • Completing haematology forms for submission with blood samples
    • Completing microbiology forms
    • Entering data on patients notes on computerised clinical system
    • Carrying out searches and clinical audit as and when required
    • Maintaining the practice notice boards in the waiting room for patient health care education
    • Ensuring adequate supplies of health information leaflets for patients to take away
    • Accessing health information for patients from other sources such as the Internet and the NHS net.
  • General:
    • Carrying out other tasks as required by the Practice Nurses, Doctors or Practice Manager, provided adequate training is given and that the procedure is considered to be safe.

    Person Specification:

    • Knowledge: Ability to provide quality care
    • Skills: Good interpersonal and communication skills, Basic IT skills, Awareness of blood-borne viruses
    • Qualifications: NVQ level 3 in Clinical Healthcare Support or equivalent
    • Experience: Experience of Phlebotomy, Blood pressure, INR testing, Dressings, B12, Pneumonia and Flu vaccine administration, Health Checks and diabetes annual reviews.
