Your New Role... CNN's Digital Video team creates original video content for all CNN platforms. From breaking news to major domestic US and international stories we tell human‑centred stories designed for digital platforms, with a focus on clarity, context, and audience impact. The Producer, Digital Video is responsible for pitching and producing video news stories with clear, compelling angles designed to resonate with CNN's digital audiences. In this role you'll monitor the news of the day, pitch story ideas, gather elements, do research, write scripts, edit video in‑house, and film with reporters at the office and, on rare occasions, in the field.
You will also use your ability to think creatively about how to explain the news and articulate why a story works for a specific platform. As a reporter you’ll value accuracy and fairness, and be a team player willing to jump in and help at a moment's notice. You’ll have extensive experience working independently, writing scripts and editing projects in Adobe Premiere, and will be able to quickly assess what is new, surprising, or consequential about a story and translate that into clear, engaging video.
Your Role Accountabilities:
- Researching, writing scripts and editing video for all digital platforms
- Finding sharp, platform appropriate angles on news stories
- Monitoring breaking news, live events and search/social trends to identify timely video opportunities
- Brainstorming and regularly generating story ideas
- Shooting video in‑office/studio and occasionally working with reporters in the field on breaking news and news enterprise stories
- Experimenting with new video formats on multiple platforms; finding ways to creatively show and explain the news
- Working collaboratively with editors and reporters to refine story framing and scripts for digital audiences
- Coordinating with colleagues in CNN bureaus around the world
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience of working at a major media outlet
- Deep understanding of digital video and social media platforms, including the ability to tailor storytelling to different audiences and formats
- Experience fact‑checking stories and conducting interviews
- Skilled with post‑production software Adobe Premiere
- Familiarity with filming interviews and b‑roll sequences
- Demonstrated editorial judgement and comfort working independently under deadline pressure
- Must be able to work holidays, weekends, overnights and extended hours as the news cycle and deadlines require
