Your New Role… The Senior Off‑Platform Editor on CNN’s Audience Team will lead the creation, strategy, and execution of high‑impact social storytelling across CNN’s flagship off‑platform channels, including Facebook, X, Reddit, WhatsApp, Threads, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Instagram, YouTube (Community) and more. The role is responsible for shaping CNN’s social presence, serving as the senior editorial lead during hours when the Director is not on, overseeing day‑to‑day decision‑making, driving meaningful referral traffic, and deepening audience engagement. As a senior editor, you will not only publish and optimize content, but also set editorial standards, identify strategic opportunities, and manage and develop a small team of direct reports, guiding colleagues on best practices for social storytelling across off‑platform spaces.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • Lead the creation, editing, and curation of highly engaging social content across platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, Reddit, and other emerging social platforms.
  • Own CNN’s off‑platform strategy, planning proactive and reactive coverage in alignment with newsroom priorities and major news moments.
  • Directly manage a small team, help mentor and support fellow team members, ensuring editorial excellence and consistency.
  • Experiment with and pilot new content formats that leverage platform‑specific features and infrastructure.
  • Analyze performance metrics and audience data to inform editorial decisions, optimize content, and identify emerging trends.
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert and internal ambassador for off‑platform storytelling, advising editorial partners on packaging, framing, and distribution strategies.
  • Provide actionable feedback loops between audience data and coverage decisions to improve on‑platform and off‑platform offerings.
  • Collaborate closely with editors, producers, and reporters to translate complex or fast‑moving news stories into compelling social narratives.
  • Maintain exceptional news judgment under pressure, particularly during breaking news and major live events.

Qualifications and Experience…

  • Social media and audience experience at a major news organization.
  • Proven experience leading or shaping social coverage for breaking news, enterprise reporting, and major live events.
  • Deep understanding of user behavior, platform algorithms, and best practices across major social platforms.
  • A strong track record of writing sharp, accurate, and engaging copy tailored for different audiences and platforms.
  • Direct management experience, including responsibility for assigning work, editing output and developing team members.
  • Exceptional communication skills for representing the Audience team across CNN.
  • Experience producing and editing social‑first visuals, video, and multimedia content.
  • Fluency in analytics and the ability to translate data into editorial and strategic action.
  • Experience using Figma, Adobe Photoshop and post‑production video tools such as Premiere Pro.
  • Exceptional editing skills, attention to detail, and ability to make confident editorial decisions independently.

Additional Information: This role includes weekend shifts and requires flexibility for breaking news, holidays, and extended hours as coverage needs demand.

Hybrid Working: This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager.
