Position summary
- As a Product Manager II (Product Insights) in the WBD Sports team you will be responsible for using WBD’s insight tools to generate actionable insights and communicate these clearly and coherently to sports product teams who will use these to inform their product roadmaps to drive key metrics and business objectives.
- You will also help to continuously refine our analytics capabilities by identifying gaps or improvements and feeding these into our analytics Senior Implementation Specialist for inclusion in their delivery roadmap.
- Furthermore, you will support product managers in experimentation and testing by driving the test process, managing our test partners and synthesizing the results to provide insight and recommendations.
- You will understand our core user needs and journeys, and relentlessly look for opportunities to test, improve and optimize these.
- You will also create and maintain a competitor benchmarking database to generate a team-wide understanding of market trends and best-in-class functionality.
You will do this by working with analytics systems and test tools for our platforms as well as the wider insight community, analytics implementation, core product teams, designers, and technology partners to identify data-based opportunities for product interventions. You will then crystallize these into clear, coherent and comprehensive narratives that can be easily understood and actioned by our product teams. You will be a great communicator with all these audiences, able to achieve buy in for your ideas, whether by written or oral communication.
This role will report to the Senior Director of Product, responsible for Insights and Analytics Implementation and within that role you may expect to work with teams across web, apps, and Connected TV platforms. You will have multiple stakeholders in the Sports Product team, but you will work particularly closely with the Senior Manager, Sports Product who is responsible for the Eurosport and TNT Sports editorial website and apps.
We are looking for a product insight manager who demonstrates data analysis and insight expertise, is able to communicate recommendations clearly and compellingly, consistently collaborates with stakeholders, and creates impact. The ideal candidate will be a good strategic thinker, perpetually inquisitive, fast-learning, enthusiastic and highly motivated product insight person with a passion for customer experience and sports.
Experience with editorial and video platforms is highly desirable. The core focus of this role will be to support WBD Sport’s publishing products (tntsports.co.uk and eurosport.com) but it will include occasional work across the entire sports product portfolio which includes the streaming video experiences on Max and discovery+. You will be working closely with product managers to track in-life performance and recommend improvements against a video product roadmap focusing on increasing video consumption, enhancing video experience, and increasing video revenue. You will have an end to end understanding of the product development life-cycle. Additionally, working collaboratively with the editorial, ad sales, and wider analytics and insight teams to measure video performance and identify innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and communicate high quality narratives with actionable insights based on product data, market trends and business goals to help the product team develop meaningful roadmap features that will drive our key metrics and business objectives.
- Create and run an insight delivery workflow to provide insight to the product team and wider stakeholders on a regular cadence as well as servicing ad hoc insight requests from the product team.
- Work closely with the analytics Senior Implementation Specialist to input into the analytics roadmap and continually ensure sports analytics capability is fit for purpose.
- Work with key roles across product, the wider insight organization at WBD, the design team (especially UX) and commercial stakeholders to receive insight requests, prioritize, delegate or defer when required, test hypotheses, launch tests and overall create value from audience insight.
- Support the implementation of product testing with product managers, helping to set up and run tests, managing third party providers, and deriving the insights from these activities.
- Build and maintain a repository of competitor knowledge through benchmarking activities across our global footprint.
- Service and support ad hoc insight requests from the Sports product team and wider stakeholder community where required, including members of the senior leadership team.
- Think creatively and collaborate with product teams to identify insight-led opportunities of how we can improve our business, product and experience for our members.
- “Productize” audience insights. Create value from our audience insight across the business by working to visualize a clear understanding of our users and the commercial opportunities – formulating these into industry standard presentations. Communicate analysis clearly and coherently to stakeholders to drive meaningful and measurable change.
- Contribute to team processes such as roadmap creation, quarterly planning, and Objectives and Key results updates alongside the product managers.
- Audit the existing WBD Sports insight toolkit and develop a roadmap of future improvements based on a clear understanding of what industry best-practice looks like today, and a learned understanding of the what the WBD Sports business needs are over time.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 2+ years of insight and analytics experience on editorial sites and DTC streaming platforms, particularly useful if experience includes live event streaming such as sports.
- Experience using both quantitative and qualitative research approaches – and strong understanding of which approach to apply to any given problem.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with excellent numerical and problem-solving capabilities.
- An ability to turn complex questions and data into clear and actionable insights.
- Exceptional presentation skills – able to communicate findings in both written format and orally clearly and coherently to stakeholders at various levels with varying levels of technical or product knowledge.
- Hands on experience with Adobe analytics is a must. A working familiarity with other analytics software such as Google Analytics, Looker, Snowflake, Tableau is highly desirable.
- Hands on experience with AB Testing and experimentation services such as Optimizely, Google Optimise, AB Tasty or similar.
- Has led or supported User Experience research activities such as customer interviews, usability testing and focus groups to understand behavior, preferences and pain points. Familiar with software such as Usertesting.com, Hotjar and Maze and when to utilize.
- A good understanding of the media landscape, with particular reference to sports publishing and streaming products would be very useful.
